Top 5 Picks to make a 'Colour' Story!

Colours are a power tool that can make or break your entire look and a ‘less is more’ fashion philosophy makes it easier to look stylish with the use of flattering cuts, patterns, designs and colours. Use our picks for the ‘it’ colours of the season to help you create a wardrobe that is up-to-date and chic. So is orange really the new black? Go through our TOP 5 colour picks below to find the answer ;)

1. Nifty shades of ‘Blue’

‘Blue’ is the talk of the town. Whether you are struggling through Monday blues or baby blues, there is a shade of blue just meant for you. To make a strong style statement, opt for Riverside, airy blue, cobalt blue and navy to give your wardrobe a whole new perspective.

2. Paint me ‘red’

Nothing lifts your look a notch higher like red does, even if it’s just a dash here and there. Powerful, mystical and classic, it’s a match made in heaven for our Asian skin tones. We just got lucky here! So flip your adventurous side up by going for Pantone’s ‘Aurora red’ which is a true fiery one with warm undertones, and paint the town red.

3. Go ‘Green’!

Ladies, putting the patriotic connotation aside, we have all the more reason to wear forest green as we get a ‘green signal’ from leading runways. Time to dump those good old mints and pastels! Show your wild side by donning the colour in a shade inspired by botanicals, lush meadows and foliage. And let’s give this one a brownie point for playing soul-mate to all our favorite neutrals. Yay!

4. A pinch of ‘Mustard’

We have always counted on yellow to brighten up a dull, boring outfit and taking the ‘yellow fever’ a step higher now is this very exotic, spicy and zesty ‘gainday ka phool’ sort of shade. This ‘spicy mustard’ is so vibrant it has literally set the runways ablaze. Go head to toe or reflect in separates like a mustard bag, nail color, jacket or scarf; either way you won’t go wrong!

5. Neutral shades of ‘Taupe & Grays’

Remember that neutral friend in a conflicting situation? How reassured and comfortable they make you feel, in a classic, timeless manner! This gray area is exactly where this season’s favorite ‘warm taupe’ and ‘sharkskin’ fall. We can’t just help but love these as they are so easy to wear and easy to pair. For instance, how potent is the contrast of 'cobalt blue/ gray' or a 'taupe/ maroon'!

So which of our top picks are you planning to indulge in this season?

Welcoming the Winter Wonderland!

Winters in Pakistan tend to be gloomier as compared to other parts of the world. We don't go through that exhilarating feeling upon seeing the entire country lit up with Christmas lights, embellished with glitzy ornaments and buzzing with melodious jingles wherever you go. We are also deprived of the luxury of 'centrally heated' homes and the ever-present 'gas shortage' takes its toll as well.

So amidst this entire dilemma, how does one ensure a fun-filled, rocking December? Here are 5 things you definitely should be doing!

1. Gear up for the 'shaadi' season

Our flashy and flamboyant 'shaadi' season which kicks off as soon as the last spell of heat diminishes, is nothing less than a grand Bollywood movie. A perfect answer to the holiday season celebrations. So how do you tackle that 'shaadi' mania?

Plan your mehndi/ shaadi joras at least 2-3 months in advance to avoid your darzis' and designers' tantrums.

Confirm your salon's bookings in advance as this is the place where hordes of women will flock in hope to look perfect for the wedding season.

Lastly, expect the unexpected i.e the guests from all corners of the globe. Get the deep cleaning of guests rooms done, hire some extra help, stock up on grocery and toiletries to avoid last moment embarrassments.

2. Flaunt it while you have it

Winter season comes, chills you to the bone and is gone by the time you adjust to it.
So without further ado, flaunt those ultra-trendy designer coats/ jackets, chic capes and smart ankle boots, before they find a place in a hidden corner of your wardrobe to be taken out only for a trip up north.

3. Focus on your skin care regimen

Winters are not only chilly, they are also very dry. Cracked lips and flaked skin is not a very pretty sight especially when you are already feeling super cold.

Your best bet is to invest on good moisturizers, sunscreens, humidifiers, socks and gloves, chap-sticks, lip balms and vaseline. Staying hydrated and eating power packed warm stuff will also keep you alert.

And lastly, as sad as it may sound, restrict those luxurious warm baths as they only add fuel to the fire when it comes to your dry skin.

4. Enjoy that 'layer of fat'

Because it wouldn't show underneath those multiple layers of clothing. One more reason to simply love the winter season! :D

Winter is just the right time for some cheat days or possibly even a cheat month! Also, the fact that you will be feasting on those delicious wedding meals, will make those diets fruitless anyways. So ditch those diets while you can, and embrace that secret layer of fat. After all, what is it that a smart-fit jacket can't hide? ;)

5. Savor those wintery delights

Winter is the right time to munch on all that ' comfort food'. Picture yourself nibbling those roasted peanuts, being snuggled up in a warm and cosy blanket with a huge mug of freshly brewed coffee/ hot chocolate on your side table! Sounds divine right?

Dig out and try different recipes of soups, fish/ seafood and steaks. Oh and did we forget garma garam gajjar ka halwa? And that basket full of oranges on a bright sunny 'picnic' sort of day? Annar ka juice overload?

Last but not the least, throw a bonfire bash with a live BBQ served with some pink tea and some amazing melodious music to turn it into a perfect wintery night to remember.

Here's to a wonderful Winter season ahead!
Stay warm guys :)

Stunning Divas! Golden Globes 2014

2014 started off with a bang as all the stars gathered in LA for the first big event of the awards season. We are, of course, talking about the 71st Annual Golden Globes Awards!  The Hollywood A-List kicked off 2014 in style and graced the red carpet in stunning and ravishing silhouettes! Missed the action? Here is a red carpet recap of 3 looks we loved!

Margot Robbie in GUCCI – “The Glowing Goddess”

Gucci was a standout this season!

The Hollywood newbie and the "Wolf of Wall Street" star looked striking in this tight-fitting white Gucci dress with a rhinestone trim and a super high classy slit.

Not only did her gown fit her like it was made for her, but she managed to show the perfect amount of skin. To top it off she went for a sleek side part and had her hair pulled back into a bun while she dazzled in emerald-green six inch killer heels to die for! Chic & sophisticated !

Taylor Swift in Carolina Herrera – “Lady in Red”

This wonderful lady in red is none other than the famous “Love story” singer who has never failed to stun her audience with her phenomenal beauty and breath-taking ensembles.

This young star appeared in a ravishing red gown with a black strap at the bust that complimented her delicate frame. The gown fanned out around her waist and buckled at the back.

The star complimented the dress with a stunning beauty look as she rocked her signature red lip which really brought out the color of the dress! She wore her blonde hair in soft curls which added to the glam look of the night. Win-Win Taylor!

Emma Watson in Dior Couture  –“Red Alert”

The 23-year-old star Harry Potter star arrived at the Beverly Hilton hotel wearing a sweeping red dress with a sash belt tied at the side (we think red was the colour of the evening!)

What really wowed the audience was when Emma turned her back and revealed that she was actually dressed in a backless number with black skinny trousers! Way to go Emma!

She accessorized her look with navy blue strappy heels( same ones she wore on last year’s red carpet, unfortunately), dark red lips and one earring as she pouted for photographers. But despite that one thing was certain, she pulled it off with grace & style.

There were so many dazzling ensembles making their way up the red carpet on this star-studded event that it’s close to impossible for us to decide on our favorite looks. All the leading ladies looked phenomenal on the red carpet, but who do you think grabbed the “Lady of the evening” title? Do let us know!

Dress To Impress!

There are some dresses that stay in our minds long after the moment is gone! Here are three of the dresses that belong in the fashion hall of fame that we totally love! From the archives of music, fashion or film, whether famous for their association with a specific celebrity, event or simply a snapshot in time these dresses wow, dazzle and make our hearts skip a beat with sheer delight!

Audrey Hepburn

There's almost no dress more iconic than the Givenchy sheath that Holly Golightly, played by Audrey Hepburn, wore to go window shopping at her favorite jewelry store in Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961). Paired with a pearl necklace, elbow-length black gloves, a tiara, a pair of dark sunglasses and a cup of deli coffee, Hepburn's look continues to define New York chic.

And if you'd like to try something just as structured and in lovely basic black, we'd love to suggest this fine LBD that is bound to catch admiring glances!

Julia Roberts

The most romantic scene in Pretty Woman (1990) is not when Julia Roberts' character, Vivian Ward, first kisses the debonair Edward Lewis, played by Richard Gere. Rather, it's when she appears transformed, Cinderella style, in an elegant red dress. The finishing touch? A diamond-and-ruby necklace.

Something red is just the right thing to get someone's attention though, isn't it, ladies? Go the extra mile and steal the scene, quite literally with this amazing red ensemble!

Marilyn Monroe

When William Travilla designed the white dress Marilyn Monroe wore over a subway grate in The Seven Year Itch (1955), he probably didn't realize it would become the centerpiece of one of the most reproduced images in film history. The design went on to fetch a price of $5.6 million at an auction in 2011.

Go easy, breezy with this version of a toga in cream color and style with braided headbands for the Greek Goddess look!

Fun, Flirty Summer Hair Dos!

Summer is in full swing and we have just the way to help you work your way around – or shall we say work 'with' the humidity! Ladies you are in luck! Runways all over the world are celebrating curly hair – learn to work with your natural hair texture and let the fun times begin now!

We’ve chosen a couple of styles for you to play around with that just absolutely took our breath away.

Braided Up

Braids are still huge this summer and the weather is just perfect to get the texturized look! Here's how to make a fishtail version similar to Jennifer Morrison's: Divide your hair in half and hold the left side in your left hand and the right side in your right hand. Pull a half-inch section of hair from outside the right side and add it to the inside of the left side. Repeat with a piece from the outside of the left side, adding it to the inside of the right side. Continue down to your ends, and secure with an elastic. Position the braid over your shoulder and tug out a few pieces for a breezy effect.

Beachy Waves

Kate Hudson's tousled style is sexy year-round, and now you have the warm, humid air to help enhance your natural texture. To get the look, divide damp hair into three sections and loosely braid each. Unravel your locks when they're dry, then set your waves with a texturizing spray.

Top Knot

On those days that it's SO hot you have to get your hair off your neck, copy Krysten Ritter's messy-but-cute topknot. Flip your head over and use your fingers to rake your hair into the highest ponytail possible. The trick is not to make the top of your hair smooth — the more texture, the better. Wrap your hair around the base of the pony and pin so your ends stick out.

Play around with your hair and try some of these fun looks for a whole different you - and ladies, about time you love your curls!!

Know When It’s Time to Throw Away Your Makeup

Getting rid of your beauty products can (and should) come at any time of the year. Disposing of beauty products such as mascara and lotions may come naturally to some; others might not realize the importance of cleaning out one’s makeup bag in order to maintain a fresh collection of products that are helping, not hurting us!

Just knowing how to apply makeup is not the only important thing, but you should also know when to toss your makeup and when and how to clean your products.

Remember: your makeup has an expiration date as well! Keep the below few points in mind when you are deciding toss away stuff.

Throw away cream blushes after one year and get rid of powder blushes after 2 years.

Powders generally can last a year to 18 months.

Toss your cream and liquid foundation after using it for 6-8 months.

Throw away concealers and cleanser after 6-8 months of use.

For mascara, toss after six months - Tip: For fake eyelashes, dispose after one use.

If you are sharing eye shadows you can get eye infections, you can spread pink eye back and forth from cosmetic to cosmetic, so be careful! Tip: Be sure to toss your makeup if you have an eye infection.

If you are a fan of liquid liner you need to remember that it needs to be replaced every three months.
Regular lipstick can last six months. However, lip glosses last less than that.

Test nail polish to see if it goes thin: If you take it out and it's clumpy and thick and drags through the nail, it's time to discard it. If you look at it, and there are rings of color, it's time to discard it.

Dump your lip pencils after 18 months of use.

Before you think about throwing away your brushes, wash your brushes with your shampoo.

Any change of color, smell or texture? Get rid of the item stat! And lastly, your makeup bag! If it's in good condition, put it through the washing machine; if it's seen better days, throw it out and buy a new one. Try to stash your beauty goods in a clean, dry area for the best results.

Splurging on longer lasting items is the best way to go and make sure you don’t buy too much makeup that you won’t even end up using!
